Established in 1898, the company has been manufacturing cotton fabrics. During the time of “Shijira Ori (Weaving)” restoration, we manufactured plain white Shijira Ori. During and after the war, cotton was controlled by government. When the control was abolished in 1951, the company started to manufacture “Shijira Ori” earnestly.

“Shijira Ori” was designed to spend cool summer in Japan. It has soft texture and has cool feeling as its unique unevenness called “Shibo” allows air flow through well. The parts in Indigo colour were dyed by Indigo dye from Tokushima and it looks cool. In 1964, we also acquired trademark registration of “Awa Masa-ai Shijira Ori” We had difficulty restoring traditional “Shijira Ori”and “Aidate (Indigo dye making)”. Recognized for many years of hard work and achievements, it has been designated as national traditional craft in July of 1978.

We keep in mind to manufacture the products that meets customer’s needs by changing from Japanese style to Western or small size to wider one. We still use traditional method and the thread is dried in the sun. Our company is located near Akui River, a tributary of the Yoshino River and its excellent and abundant water is suitable for dyeing. As production area is not big, we use consistent production method. Our motto is to accept small lot order and have quick delivery time. We aim to manufacture heartfelt products.

I have been manufacturing products from customer’s point of view. Recently, the number of Indigo dyeing experience or factory visit has increased. It seems more people are interested in traditional or handcraft products. We have been working hard to manufacture traditional “Awa Masa-ai Shijira Ori”and other indigo dyed products. We hope to let many people know about the quality of traditional products through “Shijira Ori” and other indigo dyed products.
